In the end, Ina has to make the hardest choice of her life – becoming the mother of the nation or becoming the mother of her own children

The New Body Rises to Become the Sexiest Single

Newly-single, Karylle shows no sign of being down and out. She changed a lot, from switching stations, to managers, and to taking her career to new heights. With a new show, Maruja, a weekly series in her new home station, ABS-CBN, to start taping anytime soon and a new album under works with EMI Philippines record label to be released sometime next year, the new Kapamilya star is psyched to join other singer-hosts in ASAP ’08 starting December 14! So fans have something to look forward to before the Christmas season gets here.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be a Bench endorser.” Gushed the singer and the dream has become a reality one faithful day when her new manager, Carlo Orosa, meets with Bench’s CEO Mr. Ben Chan and called for her to sign a contract on the spot. “I’ve been a Bench shopper and a huge fan of their basic tank tops which I have for several years, and I can vouch for their superior quality. My fave underwear from way before is the denim colored panties, which I also gave away as gifts to my girlfriends one Christmas.”

Doing the pictorial turned out to be a breeze for the new underwear model. “Noel [Manapat] was one of the first stylists I’ve worked with, and he gave me his assurance before we did the shoot. I definitely liked the MOBO stuff, hands down, of all that I got to wear. It’s colorful, young and very now! In fact, I’ve been bugging Noel about the MOBO line for women since I first saw it during the Bench Blackout show in Araneta.” Karylle even shares a picture taken during the show with the designer, Lesley Mobo, himself. “I became an instant fan and when I learned that he [Lesley Mobo] is known worldwide, it made me proud to be wearing some of his stuff in the ads because he’s one Pinoy we should all be proud of.

Becoming an underwear model for the first time, Karylle looked like a pro changing in and out of Bench Body’s holiday collection. Donning a black mesh bra partnered with Herbench’s red skinny jeans in one, Mobo for Bench’s abstract designed bra and Herbench’s dark denim jeans in another, she certainly looked at ease with her body. “I just finished running a 5k Unicef marathon at The Fort two days before the pictorial, and when I saw the shots from Ronnie [Salvacion’s] camera, the one against the red wall, I was so happy cause you could see the cuts in my tummy, and that’s definitely not photoshopped. I never thought I had those so I promise myself to join more marathons in the future.”

With more free time on her hands these days, Karylle didn’t let her single life pass her by. “I have grown a lot over the past few weeks. I’ve been open to learning a lot of things and getting help from other people. With life, I’ve learned to be more adventurous. I think there’s something a woman gives off when they become single… when I was newly single, I went to the mall and guys were giving me extra looks. I was wondering what changed, but I guess they just know. It’s really a choice… and I chose it over sulking at home in my pajamas eating ice cream. There’s lot of ways to be sexy… your girlfriends will all tell you how beautiful you are and I’m lucky that I have my girls to cheer me up when I’m feeling down… you can go shopping and buy new stuff that’ll make you look sexy… you can go jogging to release your stress.” And her sexiness does show.

Capture Karylle in her sexiest best at www.benchtm.com. Visit your nearest Bench, Herbench, Bench Body and Superbench stores and be as sexy as Karylle.

Go Negosyo Founding Trustee Joey Concepcion said "Go Negosyo is happy to be a partner in this project in line with our advocacy to promote an innovative entrepreneurial culture in the country. Canon kicks off Image Nation Celebration campaign with 32 new imaging products

25 September 2008 – Live Samba music, parading dancers, a deluge of colors and a spectacular feast: all the glitz and glamour of a modern Mardi Gras come to life as Canon Marketing Philippines stages a grand launch of their 32 new products at The Fort’s NBC Tent. From a wide range of printers to an exciting variety of compact and professional cameras, these new models are sure to delight as well as further boost Canon’s position in the market, and all are unveiled today with befitting pomp.
Aptly tagged “Image Nation Celebrations”, Canon’s fourth quarter campaign builds on the happy and carefree nature of the Filipino as well as our love for anything and everything festive. Canon kicks off the campaign with its press and business partners and later in the day opens its doors to Canon lovers for the EOS Photographer’s Night. This signals the beginning of the much anticipated Christmas season in the Philippines. Canon showed a vast product lineup of exciting new products that can suit any loved one on your Christmas list or even as a well-deserved gift to yourself.
The new offerings spanned across the entire consumer brand portfolio. It included new offerings from PIXMA Printers (three single function printers and five multifunction printers), three Canoscan flatbed scanners, four LaserShot Laser Printers, two XEED Projectors, two high-end Digital IXUS camera models, seven new PowerShot digital cameras, one (1) high-end high definition VIXIA Digital Camcorder, two new SELPHY Compact Photo Printers and three new EOS Digital SLR Cameras.

Great expectations are fulfilled with 3 new EOS digital SLR cameras
The EOS Digital SLR cameras took center stage within the EOS Photographers Night. This part of the celebration unveiled the newest members of the Canon’s DSLR family tree: the entry-level 10.1MP EOS 1000D, the HD-ready mid-range 50D and the highly-anticipated pro-level 5D Mark II.
The predecessor of the three-year old 12.8 megapixel EOS 5D, the EOS 5D Mark II primarily boasts of a 21.1MP full-frame 35mm CMOS sensor and Canon’s newest image processor, the DIGIC IV. Thanks to this processor, users get to enjoy higher speed imaging processing (1.3X faster), improved noise reduction at high ISO speed with little/no effect on shooting speed, natural colour reproduction, live face detection, enhanced functions, HDMI output, and lens peripheral illumination correction. The 5D Mark II also hosts a bevy of advanced features such as recording full high-definition (HD) movies at 30 frames per second (fps). In addition, Canon bundles the 5D Mark II with the superb EF24-105mm lens (standard retail price is at P182,550, available locally starting December 2008).

A great shot every time with PowerShot
Canon rejuvenates its mid-range PowerShot line-up with the launch of PowerShot A1000IS, A2000 IS, SX110IS and E1. These feature-rich cameras are now twenty percent smaller and more compact and are powered by Canon’s trademark DIGIC III Imaging Processor for ultra-responsive performance and superior image quality. All four cameras have Optical Image Stabilizer to counteract camera shake and combat image blur.
These four cameras are also armed with Advanced Face Detection Technology which includes Face Select and Track, Auto red-eye correction, Face Detection AE/AF/FE/WB and a host of other features aimed at giving you the power to take only the best people shots. This is backed up by Canon’s intelligent blur control technology, Hi-ISO Auto with Motion Detection Technology, which detects the motion of the subject and consequently optimizes ISO settings to product the best image quality.
Set to make waves at the higher end of the range are the new members of the PowerShot Telephoto Series, the PowerShot SX1 IS and SX10 IS. Joining this dynamic group is the new model in the revolutionary G-series – the PowerShot G10. Equipped with the new DIGIC IV Image Processor, these models include powerful features like Servo AF, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Face Detection Self Timer and a change in movie recording format from .MOV to .AVI. Truly, these cameras put the “power” in PowerShot.

Digital IXUS: The science of making things beautiful
Firmly established as Canon’s fashion and lifestyle line, the Digital IXUS now redefines that image by proving that genuine style is backed up by substance. Available in classic matte black and silver, the new Digital IXUS 980 IS is more than a looker: with 14.7 Megapixels, Optical Image Stabilizer and a DIGIC IV Processor, it’s sure to make heads turn for all the right reasons. Moreover, it is the first in the Digital IXUS line to be equipped with full shooting functions.
Canon also spices up the line with the Digital IXUS 870 IS, a wide-angle camera that inherits all the winning combinations of style and performance fron its acclaimed predecessor. Armed with 10 Megapixels, 4x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer, the 870 IS lets you capture breathtaking landscapes and impressive group shots in the most luxurious style.

Add color to life and immortalize memories with VIXIA Camcorders
Right on the heels of the recently-released Dual Flash Memory camcorders HF10 and HF100 is Canon’s VIXIA HF11 AVCHD Dual Flash Camcorder. It boasts the same great features as the earlier HF models – a powerful 1/3.2” Full HD CMOS Sensor, 12x Optical Zoom, Intelligent Battery, Optical Image Stabilizer and more – and further kicks up the game with its new 24Mbps HD recording. Just like the technology behind, the HF11 is set to revolutionize the videography landscape.

Make Someone Happy with SELPHY
Bask in the brighter, happier side of life with the fun line of SELPHY Compact Photo Printers. Two new models – the SELPHY ES3 and ES30 – are sure to delight with enhanced image effects and even more creative print options. These stylish printers also let you print with an integrated Gold and Silver ink and paper cartridge: add sparkle to your photos – literally! Moreover, reprinting your favorite photos is now also hassle-free with ES3’s 1GB internal memory. Print instantly, conveniently, and share the fun and memories with SELPHY.

Duplicate your memories with CanoScans
Canon offered various options to visitors in scanning and replicating memorable picture printouts or important documents during the event. With the new CanoScan 5600F, users can scan a maximum of six frames of 35mm film strips or 4 frames of 35mm slides. Yielding scans with a 48 bit depth, the CanoScan 5600F also utilizes the Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology to faithfully reproduce copies as well as automatic dust and scratch reduction and fading / grain / backlight correction for cleaner copies of old photos. This flatbed scanner is compact and light with dimensions of 272 x 491 x 97 mm (WxDxH) and 4.3kg, and can scan documents at approximately 11 seconds.
The Lide 25-successor CanoScan Lide 100 boasts of a 24-second scan speed (A4 size at 300 dpi) and an advanced Z-Lid to scan even thick and bulky items. It’s friendly to users, with four buttons that allow one-touch operations. Meanwhile, the CanoScan Lide 200 also possesses an advanced Z-Lid to scan thick and bulky items as well as a set of one-touch operation buttons – but differs with a feature for upright scanning (clip-on stand included), easy multi-page documents filing with enhanced PDF function, and USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connectivity.

Print more for less? I can on PIXMA
Making their cameos as well during the event were eight PIXMA Printer models, boasting of superb features across its various models. Canon gave visitors a glimpse of the PIXMA iP1980, the perfect success to Asia’s best-selling printer. It makes use of the FINE cartridges, ChromaLife 100 technology where photos can last up to 100 years, and a stamp of environmental friendly approval as it supports International Energy Star Program and conforms to the European RoHS Directive, where a restricted usage of hazardous materials like lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium is practiced.
Also with ChromaLife 100 technology and an environmental nod, the PIXMA MP198 multifunction printer is geared up with an advanced Z-Lid to scan thick and bulky materials, a copy speed of 19cpm mono / 14cpm color, a Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology to faithfully reproduce the colors of the original in copies, and a 4-in-1/2-in-1 printing and copying feature to reduce paper use.
The new Wi-Fi Multifunction printers, PIXMA MP628 and PIXMA MP988 also stood out during the event, with the MP628 boasting of a five-color individual ink tank system, the ChromaLife 100+ technology (preserves photos in its pristine condition even centuries later), 2400 x 4800 dpi CIS scanning feature, an easy-scroll wheel and a self-opening paper output tray, among others. Almost similar to the PIXMA MP628, the PIXMA MP988 differs with a six-color individual ink tank system with new Gray ink, and an energy-saving, quick response White LED light source for reflectives – in addition to its environmental-friendly features.
The Pictbridge-compliant PIXMA iP3680 comes with a five-color individual ink tank system, ChromaLife 100+ technology, and compatibility for USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices. The PIXMA iP4680 meanwhile proposes a faster and convenient printing process with its auto Duplex Printing feature and two-way paper feedings, in addition to its capability for printing over CD/DVDs.
The multi-function PIXMA MP545 scans with 2400 x 4800 dpi CIS at 48 bit (input) / 24 bit (output) and copies at speeds of 24 cpm mono / 16 cpm color (bolstered by the Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology). It also has a self-opening paper output tray, quick start function, an easy-scroll wheel and an Auto Photo Fix function. Another multi-function printer, the MP638 has a five-color individual ink tank system, Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology, a ChromaLife 100+ technology and speeds that zoom up to 25 ppm (mono printing) or copying at 19 cpm color.

Built for speed – Canon’s Laser Shot printers
Speed is the name of the game with Canon’s newest Laser Shot printers. The color printer LBP5050/ LBP5050N prints as fast as 8ppm for color A4-sized printouts and 12ppm for monochrome versions, thanks to its Canon Advanced Printing Technology (CAPT) 3.0 with Hi-SCoA (High-Smart Compression Architecture). The latter tech compresses print job data into manageable sizes, speeding up the process. Even with such power, the LBP5050/5050N doesn’t sacrifice quality bolstered with an Automatic Image Refinement technology. More compact and streamlined in form, the LBP5050/5050N has a built-in 16MB RAM memory (no additional memory required), and USB 2.0 High Speed network connectivity (a 10Base-T / 100Base-TX option for the LBP5050N).
The Laser Shot LBP3050 leaves the competition in the dust as it churns out printouts as fast as 8.5 seconds, and rushes at 14ppm print speed for A4-sized documents at 2400 x 600dpi (with A.I.R. technology). It too comes with CAPT 3.0, Hi-SCoA feature, and a USB 2.0 High Speed Connectivity. With a built-in 2MB RAM memory and all-in-one toner cartridge, it only weighs 5.4 kgs. The Laser Shot 3150 ups the ante with a 16ppm (A4 size) print speed.
The Laser Shot 3250, on the other hand, zips at 23ppm monochrome and a first printout at 6 seconds. It comes with a built-in 8MB SDRAM memory but weighs more than its fellow new Laser Shot models, at 6.2 kgs.

Exceed expectations with new XEED projectors
Canon also clearly projected they are at the forefront of innovations with two new XEED projectors. The XEED WUX10 bundles LCOS projector technology with the industry-leading Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array or WUXGA, which is sure to blow viewers away with its display resolution of 1920×1200 (or 2,304,000) pixels and a 16:10 screen aspect ratio. It also means that the XEED WUX10 can reproduce bright, high contrast computer images and full 1080p High Definition (HD) videos, thanks to its 3200 lumens brightness courtesy of the Canon AISYS Optical System.
This projector also has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 1.5 x zoom lens, DVI port, HDMI connector (allowing HDCP encryption support) and an RJ-45 network port to connect directly to a network as well as integrate with industry-standard AV control systems. It operates at 31dBA in Quiet Mode, and with a lamp lifetime to a maximum of 3000 hours.
The XEED SX80 is the first Pictbridge-compatible XEED projector, which Canon spices up with an HDMI Interface and USB connectivity. It also packs LCOS reflective panels and promises superior image quality with its AISYS optical system and 3000 lumens brightness. The XEED SX80 comes with an intelligent One-Touch Instant Convenience for Auto Focus, Auto Input Selection, Auto Keystone Correction, and Auto Color Screen Correction.

The Canon Image Nation Celebration!
Canon unveiled all the new products inside thematic booths and backgrounds that attracted the eye. Product managers were on deck to introduce each of the new units and were available to elaborate on the new features and technologies for the numerous visitors at the event.
Turning it into the grand celebration it is touted to be, Canon set the event with a Mardi Gras backdrop – complete with Samba music and parading dancers.
The imaging giant jazzed up the festivities with a photo exhibit by renowned photographer and loyal Canon EOS professional, Mr. John Chua in his exhibit entitled “Sky Bound” which was a collection of his breathtaking aerial shots taken through the years using his Canon 1DS Mark III. Chua has been using the Canon system for the most part of his successful and well-awarded career in commercial photography.
This day also marked the first photo exhibit of Canon Brand Ambassador and well-loved actor Mr. Richard Gomez, with a collection of his travel, landscape and human interest photographs, shot through the years using his film, point and shoot and Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras. Another highlight was a collection of the best “Celebration” themed photos by loyal Canon users who submitted their photos especially for the event.
An IXUS fashion show was beautifully executed which featured designers from SOFA (School of Fashion and the Arts) and their works, side-by-side with Canon’s stylish new IXUS Digital Cameras. An exhibition of young graphic designers and artists, aptly entitled PIXMAgineers also showed their digital works of art brought to life with the latest Canon PIXMA Printers.
Of course, a party is not one without games, music, and dancing. Canon offered a remarkable set of each in the Image Nation Celebration Arena. Scenic vignettes were also erected, allowing guests who wanted to try out the new EOS Digital cameras to have their pictures taken along with gorgeous models. The pictures were printed using the latest PIXMA and Selphy Printers.
